We are an NHS Acute Trust so our user base is slightly different so I don't know if this helps.
We have a graffiti board here - white board and pens. I did think about using comments/cards but decided I'd rather go for the "organic" look. I've had a few good things from it- oiling doors/decoration ideas/resource requests and there is good interaction between users and library staff. On occasions, it has looked messy (but I quite liked it) and it gets cleaned every month. We have had some interesting requests - getting JK Rowling and a manga artist to visit, but I think it is a great way to communicate with users.
Ours is towards the back of the library - so on one hand people might not know it is there but on the other hand I think people feel more relaxed when writing. It certainly works better than our comments book.
I like the idea of archiving - currently I just take a photo and tweet it. Once our new website is up and running, I'll look to archiving them there- thanks Yvonne for that idea.
