The following full time, fixed-term post is available within Library Services at the University of Birmingham to provide maternity cover until 31st January 2018:
Metadata Specialist (Music)
Starting salary is normally in the range £21,904 to £23,532. With potential progression once in post to £27,242 a year.
The post holder will have a key role to play in the creation, editing and management of metadata in order to facilitate discovery and access to information resources. They will undertake cataloguing and classification duties and create and assign subject headings for library acquired resources, using internationally recognised standards. They will have specific responsibility for dealing with music resources but will also be expected to apply their cataloguing skills to the full range of resources acquired by Library Services. The post holder will be expected to provide support and guidance to colleagues in Library Services in relation to metadata and their specialist area and will also deal with queries from university staff, students and other library users in respect to metadata issues.
The successful applicant will be an experienced cataloguer with an in-depth knowledge of current cataloguing standards and of the particular issues associated with the description and discovery of musical scores, recording and sheet music, etc., particularly classical music.
