Dear All,
the Institute of Physics has opened nominations for its annual awards.
As far as I can see you do not need to be a member to submit a
nomination (though you do need to register yourself on the site,
since submissions are entirely online).
The following might be suitable for geophysicists:
All the "Gold" medals http://www.iop.org/about/awards/gold/page_38424.html
The "Silver" medals for "Applied and Environmental Physics" and for
"Physics Education and Widening Participation and Public Engagement...",
and for "Theoretical (including mathematical and computational) physics";

All the "Bronze" medals for early career scientists (the IoP defines this
as within 6 years of PhD or 10 years of starting a job in physics research
if the nominee does not have a PhD) - this includes a new one specifically for women,
the Jocelyn Bell Burnell medal. http://www.iop.org/about/awards/bronze/page_38645.html
The IoP also offers an "international" medal,
http://www.iop.org/about/awards/newton/page_38399.html
(named after Isaac Newton) which is for "world-leading contributions
to physics by persons of any nationality".
Regards,
Sheila Peacock,
BGA Awards officer.
