Please see below if you have an interest in the history of Oceanography, which of course has its geodetic aspects.

History of UK Marine Science - a Challenger Society initiative
The Challenger Society for Marine Science (http://www.challenger-society.org.uk/) was founded in 1903 and continues to be "the foremost learned society representing the UK academic marine research community". The society has interest in all aspects of marine science.
A recent initiative has re-started the Society's Special Interest Group devoted to the history of UK marine science. That history is a rich and long one stretching back to before the groundbreaking Challenger Expedition of the 1870s and including many groundbreaking discoveries and contributions to our understanding of the oceans throughout the 20th century.
The CSMS History SIG seeks to raise awareness of that history and its relevant to our present-day capabilities and understanding and will complement and broaden activities that are listed or the History SIG tab on the CSMS web site.
We invite you to join this SIG (you do not have to be a member of the Challenger Society) and ask you to invite your colleagues to do so too.
You may do this on the CSMS SIG tab or by e-mailing John Gould ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) stating your areas of interest.
We look forward to hearing from you.
John Gould and Philip Woodworth
