Topics:
The starting point for this conference is that if we are to build a positive urban future it is impossible to divorce the issues of urban design, city infrastructures, planning policy, housing, community and transport etc. from each other. If the cities we design and build are to be truly sustainable and resilient we need to ensure the urban forms, typologies and strategies we employ work at every scale and level. For that reason this conference takes on three layers or category of issue:
Cities: The most important questions at the conference revolve around urban design and its place at the heart of ‘livability’. Speakers will deal with urban design typologies, regional development plans, city infrastructure design and more.
Communities: The city plans we have fundamentally reflect and inform the communities our cities host and foster. Sociologists, human geographers and community planners will discuss the effects of urban design on peoples’ lives directly.
Homes: At a time of a recognised housing crisis and government responses that include promoting the development of entire ‘new towns’ the conference has experts from the housing sector, architects developing new housing models and communkty representatives discussing the impact of design on their lives.
Publications:
There will be a conference proceedings publication with its own ISSN. Delegates will also be considered for inclusion in two books series with UCL Press and Libri Publishing respectively.
Keynotes:
Keynotes from European Council of Spatial Planners and Royal Town Planning Institute. Other keynotes from the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, Royal institute of British Architects, National Housing Federation, and more.
