The January 2017 issue of the International Association of Survey Statisticians (IASS) newsletter 'The Survey Statistician' is now available at:
http://isi-iass.org/home/wp-content/uploads/Survey-Statistician_January-2017.pdf
See: http://isi-iass.org/home/services/the-survey-statistician/ for previous issues of the newsletter.
This issue carries some important announcements and updates from the IASS President Steven Heeringa and Scientific Secretary Denise Silva. It also contains sadly an In Memoriam for our dear colleague and friend, Steve Fienberg, who sadly passed away in December. The piece was specially written by some of those that he has mentored and influenced throughout the years ensuring the next generation of academic statisticians.
Besides our regular features of country reports on activities related to survey statistics, Table of Contents of relevant journals and announcements for upcoming conferences, we also have three special articles in each issue under the headings: 'New and Emerging Methods', 'Ask the Expert 'and 'Book/Software Review' .
The current issue contains the following:
- an article by Frederic Vogel and Cristiano Ferrez titled: Handbook on Master Sampling Frames for Agricultural Statistics: Frame Development, Sample Design and Estimation;
- a response to the question: How can we continue to protect the confidentiality of data subjects under open access initiatives? by Natalie Shlomo;
- a book review provided by Yong You (Statistics Canada) for the book: Analysis of Poverty Data by Small Area Estimation (Eds. M. Pratesi), John Wiley & Sons, 2016.
We thank all of the section editors and contributors to the newsletter.
