Research Fellow in statistics/epidemiology - five year post at The University of Manchester
The University of Manchester has an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to work on a European Research Council funded study on Children and Adolescents with PaRental mental Illness (CAPRI). The study is led by Professor Kathryn Abel in the Centre for Women's Mental Health and Professor Richard Emsley in the Centre for Biostatistics. You will coordinate epidemiological collaborations in Sweden with Professor Christina Dalman (Karolinska Institutet), in Australia with Professor Vera Morgan (University of Western Australia) and in UK with Professor Darren Ashcroft (University of Manchester).
You should have a PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, mathematics or from other fields that contains substantial mathematical or statistical content, and a good (2:1 or above) honours degree (or non-UK equivalent) in a relevant statistical or health science. Some familiarity with national register databases especially the UK CPRD, integrating large epidemiological datasets and risk clustering analyses would be an advantage.
You will have the opportunity to develop their career rapidly, managing a small team of 1 RA (postdoc) and 1 or 2 PhDs in Manchester, and working alongside a more senior postdoc colleague in Stockholm and an RA in Perth. Within the CAPRI study, You will be responsible for working on Clinical Practice Register Databases (CPRD) with Professors Abel and Ashcroft, as well as on Swedish registers with Professor Dalman, the Swedish postdoc and the Manchester RA/postdoc and PhD students. You will join the biostatistics team led by Professor Emsley in the Centre for Biostatistics. Professor Emsley will co-supervise the fellow and provide regular meetings to supervise the research and training.
You will support the strategic direction of the CAPRI Programme to develop and identify the clinical risk algorithms with which to stratify analyses, develop innovative methodologies for merging data, looking at clustering of exposures and outcomes, sibling analyses etc. You will also undertake independent analyses, identify funding opportunities, conduct reviews, as well as develop research proposals for external funding.
