Dear Nina,
You should be fine with any recent Linux distribution so it's mainly a
matter of taste.
The officially supported Linux distributions by MathWorks are Ubuntu,
Red Hat Enterprise, SUSE Linux Enterprise and Debian:

It might be a good idea to use a distribution derived from Debian (eg
Ubuntu) so that you can use the NeuroDebian repository to easily install
other neuroimaging software packages:
http://neuro.debian.net/
Otherwise, I use openSUSE and John uses CentOS.
