Interesting question, there are certainly professional taste testers employed by food a wine companies to rate tastes, and i imagine some would give clays a go!

High-grade metamorphism, anatexis and granite magmatism
Granitic magmas sensu lato play a critical role in both continental crust growth and its internal differentiation. The details of processes connecting the source regions for granitic magmas with granitic intrusions, or their volcanic equivalents, are far from clear. As a consequence, we still have a limited understanding of the nature of crustal differentiation associated with the geodynamic settings where granitic magmas are produced, including the proportion of crustal growth to crustal reworking. This collection of articles is primarily based on a session at the EMC 2016 meeting, but is open to all contributions, focused on the nature, mechanisms and timing of processes that form granite magmas from the deep source regions through to volcanic eruptions, and the consequences for crustal growth and crustal differentiation. The special collection Associate Editor is Antonio Acosta-Vigil, who will also rely on the advice and expertise of Richard White. Richard White will join as an Associate Editor when the workload rises.
