Thanks for sharing Teresa. Very interesting
We had our first evidential confirmation on the cognitive advantages our mandarin early years immersion programme last week. Local authority compared our children with mono lingual peers and found them to be exceeding in all areas in the cohort tracking. Good news
Looking to develop a partnership with the institute of educations speech and language department to further research into this area if we can. Couple of emails exchanged but would hope this galvanises attention!

Dear all,
Apologies for cross postings.
The article entitled ‘El aprendizaje de lenguas extranjeras en Educación Infantil en la Comunidad de Madrid: perfil, percepciones y metodologías de los docentes’, the report based on the survey carried on in the Madrid Region is now available to read. It can be downloaded from the Didáctica. Lengua y Literatura journal in Spanish:
https://revistas.ucm.es/index.php/DIDA/issue/current
In brief: The survey shows that English is the main language selected, most projects begin when children are 3 years old introducing English gradually with 45 to 60 mins exposure to foreign language lessons and given by an English teacher who is not an specialist in the Early Years. Most projects are curricular, not incurring in an additional cost to parents. Part 2 of the study, looks at the steps which need to be taken in order to ensure smooth and successful transition from the Early Years to bilingual Primary education.
Best wishes,
Teresa
