Based on Kenny et al.’s paper (2016) ‘Which terms should be used to describe autism? Perspectives from the UK autism community’ and on some of their survey data pre and post-cleaning, I wrote a letter (http://aut.sagepub.com/content/early/2016/11/10/1362361316673566 - paywalled) showing that surveys of both autistic (this likely also concerns other neurodivergences as well) and NT cohorts likely introduce a bias in the process of cleaning the data that is disproportionately affecting the responses from autistics. I’ve also blogged about it at http://gizmonaut.net/blog/autism/2016/11/are_surveys_fair_to_autistics.html (free access). Further research is needed to confirm this hypothesis.
