Bridging gender research and policy making: missing links, good practices, future scenarios

ATGENDER Spring Conference, 19-21 April 2017, Vilnius

Organised by ATGENDER, The European Association for Gender Research, Education and Documentation, with support from the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) and Vilnius University (VU), the 2017 edition of the ATGENDER Spring conference is dedicated to building dialogues between gender researchers, activists, students, educators and policy makers.

The main goal of this conference is to address gaps between academic research in gender studies and the practice of gender policy making and implementation in light of current political and social issues in Europe. The conference invites participants to consider how to make gender research more accessible outside the academic community and how to make gender policy better informed by recent scholarship. It also urges participants to think about how to overcome the dualism of theory and practice in the quest for future gender equality in Europe.

ATGENDER particularly encourages contributions by policy makers, information specialists, archivists, civil society activists and academics. Graduate students are also invited to contribute to the conference with academically informed and politically engaged papers.

We welcome different formats (such as papers, panels, roundtables and workshops) around the following topics:

  1. 1. Quantitative and Qualitative methods of gender analysis (with a special focus on: Intersecting inequalities; Gender-based violence; Gender equality in the European education system; Occupational and educational segregation; Gender mainstreaming and gender budgeting; Women and poverty; Economic benefits of gender equality)
  2.  Men and masculinities
  3.  Anti-genderism and homophobia
  4.  Contested reproductive rights
  5.  Prostitution and trafficking
  6.  Antidiscrimination and diversity
  7.  Gender and migration
  8.  Gender and radicalisation

For individual presentations, please submit a proposal in the following format:

  * Title and abstract (200 words max)
  * Topic you wish to contribute to
  * Autobiographical blurb (75 words max)
  *   Three-item bibliography

For panels, roundtables and workshops, please submit proposals in the following format:

  *   Type of activity: Roundtable/Workshop/Panel
  * Topic you wish to contribute to
  * Title and abstract (350 words max)
  * Autobiographical blurbs of participants (75 words max each)

Please submit your proposal for individual presentations or group formats by January 9th to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. Proposals must be sent in a single file as an attachment. Acceptance letters will be sent out by mid-February.

Are you not (yet) a member of ATGENDER? Visit our website to join! Not only will your conference fee be reduced from 200 to 100 Euro (or 50 Euro for students and unemployed graduates), but you will also have the opportunity to apply for travel grants that ATGENDER will make available for young participants. Moreover, you will receive a free copy of the latest volume of our 'Teaching with Gender' book series and become a part of a large community of feminist researchers, policy makers and activists throughout Europe.

For any questions, please contact the ATGENDER office: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>

A modest scheme of grants will ensure the participation of institutional and student members who are involved in the activities of ATGENDER.

During the conference, the General Assembly for ATGENDER and Elections of new Board members will take place. The General Assembly will also be a space for ATGENDER members to engage in conversation with Board members to discuss the future of the organisation.
