This might work if you use a normally closed switch. Depends on the details of your client's requirements.

I am sure the manufacturers could lend you one for a trial, although it wasn't designed for attention calling purposes.

Subject: Switch activation on release
Hello everyone,
We are trying to set up a switch for a client that can be activated on release and we are hoping to use it with a stand alone pager. Is there any device that can accept a 3.5mm jack switch that can make this possible please?
Thank you.
