This is just a quick reminder that the closing dates for these two posts is 3 January.
Project Archivists: Bristol Old Vic: Protecting and sharing the heritage of Britain’s oldest theatre
Following the award of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to Bristol Old Vic, the University of Bristol Theatre Collection, working in partnership with Bristol Old Vic and Bristol Archives, is recruiting for two Project Archivists. Two fixed term contracts are available, both of which are based at the Theatre Collection: a three year fixed term contract to arrange and catalogue Bristol Old Vic Archive and a two year fixed term contract to arrange and catalogue the archives of associated individuals and organisations such as director John Moody and designer Graham Barlow, as well as the records of the Theatre Royal, Bristol, held at Bristol Archives. The anticipated start date for both posts is 1 March 2017.
Although two posts are available, candidates should submit one application and state in their covering statement whether they are interested in a particular post or would consider either.
Project Archivist: Bristol Old Vic Archive
The Bristol Old Vic Archive is the archive of the Company from its formation in 1946. It includes records relating to productions and tours as well as business records. The role will include appraisal, arrangement, repackaging, selection of material for digitisation and cataloguing the archive to international standards of archival description using Calm. The post holder will also work closely with a team of volunteers who will assist with the project.
Project Archivist: Bristol Old Vic Related Archives
These are archives of individuals connected with the Bristol Old Vic such as director John Moody, historian Kathleen Barker, designer Graham Barlow and organisations such as London Old Vic and the University of Bristol Drama Department. Most archives will be appraised, arranged, repackaged and catalogued to international standards of archival description using Calm. A small number of archives, those where only a small part of a larger archive is relevant, will be box-listed to item level. The Project Archivist will also undertake a project to re-catalogue the archives of the Theatre Royal, Bristol, enhancing the existing available catalogue at the Bristol Archives, and will select suitable material for digitisation from across all collections.
The successful candidates will have a recognised postgraduate qualification in archives and records management along with a sound understanding and professional experience of archival appraisal, arrangement and cataloguing of large, complex archives.
