PhD position in Amsterdam
Physics Beyond the Standard Model from Molecules
L.S.
(apologies for sending an empty file previously)
At LaserLaB VU University Amsterdam we have an opening for a PhD student working on precision frequency metrology studies on hydrogen molecules using advanced lasers, combined with atomic clock/frequency comb calibrations. Comparison with advanced QED calculations may reveal subtle effects of fifth forces beyond the Standard Model of Physics, and the existence of extra dimensions. Results on H2 may also shed light on the proton size puzzle.
The research program will be executed in a team with several students and PostDocs. One line of research will extend the studies on hydrogen to tritium isotopes for which we collaborate with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, where part of the measurements will be performed.
Students of all nationalities, with Masters Degree in physics, or relevant subject are eligible.
Knowledge about lasers and spectroscopy is a considered an advantage.
The PhD position is funded (by the European Research Council) with full salary for 4 years.
Salary, growing from 2,191 € gross per month in the 1st year to 2,801 € is supplemented
with a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8,33%.
