Dear Colleagues:
We would like to bring to your attention the *Call for Abstracts* for the
9th biennial conference of the International Society for Industrial Ecology
(ISIE) and the 25th annual conference of the International Symposium on
Sustainable Systems and Technology (ISSST), which will be held jointly in
Chicago, Illinois, USA from *June 25-29, 2017*. This meeting promises to be
a grand event, as the two leading conferences on sustainability merge their
efforts. The conference is being supported by a consortium of four
universities in the region: DePaul University (DPU), the Illinois Institute
of Technology (IIT), Northwestern University (NU), and the University of
Illinois at Chicago (UIC). The conference venue is The Forum, on the UIC
campus.
The theme of the conference, *“Science in Support of Sustainable and
Resilient Communities,”* emphasizes the crucial role that research in
Industrial Ecology and Sustainable Systems plays in the planning, design,
and governance of socio-ecological communities; the importance of
understanding the complexity of such systems and their responses to both
long term and short term perturbations; and how this knowledge is being
applied to devise holistic solutions across multiple spatial and temporal
scales, and organizational settings.
*ISIE-ISSST 2017* will include keynote speakers, topical workshops, special
sessions, and oral and poster presentations describing research and
practice on sustainability and resilience, material flow and life cycle
applications, and tools relevant to Industrial Ecology and Sustainable
Systems.
The conference will also feature an “*Industry/Practitioner Track*” in
which the keynote speakers and papers will focus on best practices in
sustainable resource management, product stewardship, and the circular
economy, among others.
Abstracts for Oral Presentations, Poster Presentations, and Special
Sessions should be no more than 500 words and should fall within 1-3 of the
specified sub-topics for the conference. Proposals for Special Sessions
should detail the session topic, format, and tentative speakers.
*Abstracts are due December 15, 2016, *and can be submitted at the
Conference website (click on the image below).
