This survey is part of a CHASE-funded project seeking to develop new resources to engage and support Arts and Humanities doctoral researchers’ professional development.

With over half of Arts and Humanities doctoral graduates working outside of Higher Education, and a quarter of Early Career Researchers undertaking portfolio work, post-PhD careers in the Arts and Humanities increasingly demand careful planning and consideration. Despite valuable insights into the career aspirations and destinations of Arts & Humanities doctoral graduates, little is known about their engagement with professional development and career-planning. By shedding light on the motivations and preferences of doctoral researchers, this project will deliver pathways for increased engagement, and thus contribute to improving Arts and Humanities’ doctoral researchers’ preparation for the post-PhD job market.
