Dear Woo-Suk,
there exists a command CAT_DumpSurfArea for that purpose:
cmd=sprintf('CAT_DumpSurfArea %s tmp.txt',spm_select(1,'gifti','select surface','','','[lr]h.central'));
[ST, RS] = cat_system(cmd);
disp(RS)
You have to select the central surface for each hemisphere and the surface area will be printed.
