I would recommend Paranoid Parenting by Frank Furedi. It is more sociological than the subtitle suggests but a very accessible read. Many of the examples will be familiar and amusing to that age-group while the concepts will be readily grasped.

Subject: Social science for teenagers
Does anyone know of any accessible introductory books about social policy, sociology, or politics that are aimed at bright 12/13/14 year olds? Is there such a thing? ideally not so much a school text book as something to grab their attention and excite them.
Thanks. My grandchildren may or may not be grateful!
