Apologies, a postdoctoral position rather than a PhD position is being
offered. Please see below.
Best regards,

Postdoctoral research position in Liquid-Jet Photoelectron Spectroscopy
in the Molecular Physics Department at the Fritz-Haber Institute, Berlin
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in photoelectron
spectroscopy from aqueous solutions. The position is available in the
group of Dr. Bernd Winter (www.fhi-berlin.mpg.de/mp/winter/), department
of Molecular Physics (Prof. Gerard Meijer), Fritz-Haber Institute, in
the framework of the Berlin Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1109
“Understanding of Metal / Oxide Water Systems at the Molecular Scale:
Structural Evolution, Interfaces, and Dissolution”
(www.chemie.hu-berlin.de/forschung/sfb1109/). The particular scientific
focus is on the electronic structure of small metal-oxide complexes and
nanoparticles in water. Central aspects include nucleation processes and
determination of molecular precursors occurring in simple
transition-metal-ion aqueous solution. Further research goals include
the determination of the interfacial structure between the metal-oxide
nanoparticle and liquid water, revealing how water adsorbs, and
identifying the relevant (ultrafast) energy and charge transfer
processes. Such information is inferred from direct valence and
core-level photoelectron spectroscopy and complementary Auger and
non-local autoionization spectroscopies.
Experiments will be typically performed using undulator
synchrotron-radiation in conjunction with a vacuum liquid microjet. The
candidate is expected to interact with chemistry and physics research
groups of the CRC to jointly identify most pressing scientific questions
within the CRC activity which are addressed using complementary
experimental routes. The Fritz-Haber Institute provides a rich
scientific environment with a wide range of tools that can complement
the synchrotron radiation-based studies.
Requirements include a PhD degree in Physics or Chemistry. Candidates
should have proven experience with at least some of the following:
photoelectron spectroscopy, synchrotron radiation, laser spectroscopy,
aqueous solutions electronic structure.
The position is available from January 01, 2017 onwards, and
applications will be considered until the position is filled. Applicants
should submit a CV, a brief statement of research interests, and the
names of two referees, by e-mail to Dr. Bernd Winter:
