Colleagues may be interested to know about the publication of a digitisation Toolkit for community engagement events and working with cultural heritage institutions. The Toolkit can be found at www.metro.org/cit-toolkit
The Toolkit is an output of the Culture in Transit project, generously funded by the John L. and James S. Knight Foundation, Knight News Challenge on Libraries in 2014. It was a collaborative, 18-month-long mobile digitisation project of the Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO), the Brooklyn Public Library and Queens Library.
At the center of the project was the creation of a mobile digitisation kit to enable us to undertake community digitisation events at public branch libraries throughout Brooklyn & Queens and to create an on-site digitisation service for cultural heritage institutions across New York City & Westchester County.
The Toolkit features equipment kit lists, equipment recommendations, strategies for undertaking community engagement events & working with small cultural heritage institutions to digitise archival collections and downloadable resources.
A primary goal of this project was to create a replicable model for future mobile digitisation efforts. Therefore, we have licensed the contents of the Toolkit under a CC 1.0 Universal license - anyone is free to reuse any of the material in the Toolkit.
