Early Career Researchers Conference funding
Since 2015 the Sociological Review have been running an annual competition to provide funds of up to £1000 per applicant for unfunded PhD students and postdocs (within 3 years of completion) to facilitate their attendance and participation of conferences. This was in recognition of the fact that at this early career stage it can be quite difficult to raise the funds required to take part in these events.
The Sociological Review welcome applications from early career scholars based all over the world working in disciplines across the social sciences to facilitate their attendance and participation of conferences. Applications are evaluated by a team of reviewers drawn from The Sociological Review editorial board.
The competition is ordinarily announced in the autumn to support conference attendance in the following year.
2017 Applications
The latest round of funding, to support ECR attendance at conferences taking place between 1st March 2017 and 31st December 2017.

Applicants must demonstrate that they plan to give a paper at the conference;
Applicants must not be in receipt of other funds e.g. DTC, University and ESRC scholarships; postdoctoral funding with specific allowance for conference attendance; permanent academic position;

You will be expected to provide a 750 word report – of the event or of your paper – for The Sociological Review blog – within one month of the event.

The Sociological Review Seminar Series Competition 2017
The Sociological Review Foundation makes available up to £10,000 each year to fund the organisation of scholarly seminars on any subject broadly within the publishing interests of the journal. It particularly supports research seminar series and/or research symposia that bring together established and new researchers to share and produce imaginative cutting-edge work of cultural and social significance. They seek proposals that involve collaborations across institutions and disciplines and welcome those that connect to wider communities and the arts.
As part of the foundation’s mission to serve and enhance the future sociological community, seminars and symposia should be open to members of sociological teaching groups in colleges and schools. For example, a number of places could either be made available to local colleges / 6th forms or sessions could be video recorded and offered to these audiences.
For more information and details about how to apply, please see the Seminar Series page:
