Fully Funded PhD Studentship – The Open University, Milton Keynes - £14,296.
A fully funded, full-time, three-year PhD studentship dedicated to this project is being offered in the Music Computing Lab at the Open University, to start in February 2016.

This project will focus on the use of musically inspired ideas to design, develop and evaluate innovative digital systems for rehabilitation or health.
A starting point for the project will be to critique and improve an existing system (the Haptic Bracelets) - originally designed for learning multi-limbed drumming and rhythm skills, but currently being applied to gait rehabilitation with survivors of stroke, brain trauma, Huntingdon’s and related conditions.
Depending on the skills and preferences of candidates, the project could focus on developing and evaluating the Haptic Bracelets in depth, or focus on some other idea related to musically inspired technologies for Digital Health.
Applicants must hold a good Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
Useful skills include the following.
• Musical skills (formal or informal) are essential.
• Programming skills are essential.
• Music-related computing skills, such as Max/MSP, PD or SuperCollider programming are desirable.
• Knowledge or experience of HCI evaluation would be useful.
• Experience of prototyping with Arduino, Raspberry Pi or similar could help.
You will be based at the Open University Campus in Milton Keynes.
