Dear colleagues,
We would like to invite you to submit an abstract in our session at EGU 2017 (Vienna, Austria, 23-28 April, 2017) on:
The heat budget of crustal metamorphism: theoretical predictions and natural constraints (co-organized) GD7.3/EMRP4.38
Conveners: Jean-Pierre Burg, Evangelos Moulas, Dimitrios Kostopoulos & Stefan Schmalholz
Description:
Temperature is one of the most important thermodynamic variables of metamorphic crystallization. Temperature changes in crustal rocks are the consequence of heat generation and transfer in the crust. Investigating the metamorphic heat budget provides first-order constraints on crustal evolution and allows quantification of processes that occur in the earth's interior. However, heat generation and transfer are attained via transient processes where time is an important factor. For this reason, it is necessary to combine field estimates, timing constrains and theoretical predictions concerning heat budgets in metamorphic belts.
In this session, we invite theoretical as well as field-oriented contributions from the fields of tectonics, geodynamics, geophysics and petrology, in an attempt to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
Invited Speakers:
Mark T Brandon (Yale University)
Mark J Caddick (Virginia Tech)
Important deadlines:
Abstract submission: 11 January 2017
