Friends & Volunteers: Introduction to Fundraising Support
10.30am - 3.00pm, Monday 5th December 2016, The National Archives
Fundraising for Archives invites Friends and Volunteers from across the archive sector to The National Archives for a workshop on fundraising. This is an opportunity for Friends and volunteers from different services to come together, share their experiences and hear fundraising best practice from peers successful at generating income for their archive.
The session includes:
* The Friends and archivist of Dorset History Centre sharing their success at fundraising in collaboration
* The Friends and head of special collections of Senate House Library discussing how Friends can perform the vital role of advocate for their service
* The fundraising volunteer and the archivist of Marx Memorial Library presenting the difference volunteers make to an archive's fundraising endeavours
* The senior archivist of Bristol Record Office addressing the advantages of a Friends group supporting more than one local heritage service
* A talk and Q&A with Jeff James, Chief Executive and Keeper of The National Archives
* An introduction to Charity Commission guidance for governance of Friends groups by Stone King
* A fundraising surgery providing 1:1 advice to Friends and volunteers
* An opportunity to speak with the Fundraising for Archives team about what fundraising support and training is available to Friends and volunteers
* And an exclusive chance to see some of The National Archives' most fascinating records up close
This is very much an action-packed day with lunch and refreshments provided. All are welcome, and a representative from the archive service itself is very welcome to come alongside their Friends and/or volunteers.
