POSITION
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a background in Bioinformatics (or related fields) for a Postdoctoral Researcher with a possibility of future faculty track position within the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center. The candidate will be engaged in research focusing on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer Disease as well as other age-related conditions. The faculty members of the genetic epidemiology group are engaged in research focusing on gene identification/characterization, functional genetics and translational studies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, evaluate, and/or optimize bioinformatics tools to mine high-throughput genomic data (e.g., genome-wide SNPs, whole exome/genome sequencing, microarray expression, RNA-seq data, etc)
Perform statistical genetic analyses using family, case-control and/or cohort data.
Prepare manuscripts, grant proposals, and scientific meeting presentations
Work independently as well as collaboratively with highly interactive research groups
REQUIREMENTS
Ph.D. in Bioinformatics or related fields
Shell scripting and programming proficiency in Python, C, C++, or Java on UNIX/Linux environments, particularly with large text files and genomic data
Familiarity with commonly used human sequence data analysis bioinformatics tools (e.g. SAMtools, GATK, Picard) and genetic databases (e.g. Ensembl Genes, 1000 Genomes, ESP, HapMap, UCSC Genome Browser)
Working knowledge of statistical genetics will be a plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
