Dear colleagues,
It is my pleasure to announce the publication of my book titled Transport Justice: Designing Fair Transportation Systems<https://www.routledge.com/Transport-Justice-Designing-fair-transportation-systems/Martens/p/book/9780415638326>.
The book presents a novel, and radically progressive, approach to transportation planning, with far-reaching implications for current transport policies at all spatial scales, from local to federal, and from regional to European. Drawing on philosophies of social justice, the book defines a set of justice principles for transportation planning and subsequently presents a practical approach to transportation planning based on these principles, with a case study in the Amsterdam region.
A key component of the proposed approach is a radically different financing and pricing scheme from those seen in countries around the world, thereby shedding a refreshing light on debates about taxation, congestion pricing and the legitimate ways to use the tax proceeds collected primarily from car drivers.
I am honored to have received the following endorsement from Susan Fainstein, author of The Just City and a leading planning scholar: “Transport Justice<https://www.routledge.com/Transport-Justice-Designing-fair-transportation-systems/Martens/p/book/9780415638326> is an exceptionally important and original addition to urban studies literature.”
For those who want to get a first impression of the book, parts are already available on the web<https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=6E2TDAAAQBAJ&lpg=PP1&dq=Transport-Justice-Designing-fair-transportation-systems&hl=nl&pg=PT144#v=onepage&q=Transport-Justice-Designing-fair-transportation-systems&f=false>.
For those interested to buy it or order it for their library, Routledge gives a 20% discount on the price if the book is ordered via their website<https://www.routledge.com/Transport-Justice-Designing-fair-transportation-systems/Martens/p/book/9780415638326> and if you use the code ‘FLR40’ when ordering the book.
Comments, thoughts and critique are, of course, more than welcome!
