We are pleased to announce a strong and varied lineup of workshop presentations at the forthcoming SRA annual conference, ‘Making the links: New directions for social researchers’ on 6 December. Here are the details: http://the-sra.org.uk/event-registration/?ee=418
We selected 20 presentations from over 70 abstracts submitted – a challenging task as the standard was extremely high. Speakers are from research agencies and institutes, the charity sector, academia, and central and local government. Topics include gender identity, research in a conflict zone, big data, building collaborations, the ‘gamification’ of research, online panels, social media, mental health issues, disability and health care.
The focus is on sharing experiences and learning that will benefit applied researchers across all sectors. The workshop themes are:
• Evaluation
• Researching challenging topics
• Bringing experts into the research process
• Survey innovation
• Participatory research
• Communicating research
• Developing survey questions
• Using secondary data
Twice during the day, delegates will choose from 5 sessions of paired presentations. You can read all about them on our Workshops Flyer at http://the-sra.org.uk/event-registration/?ee=418
And of course we have five plenary sessions, chaired by Alison Park, Director of CLOSER at UCL’s Institute of Education:
• Sharon Witherspoon (Director of Policy at the Academy of Social Science) - Keynote
• Gareth Morrell (Head of Research at Madano)
‘Making, embracing and embedding the links: technology and qualitative research’
• Siobhan Campbell (Deputy Chief Scientific Advisor, Head of Central Research Team at Department for Transport)
‘Dealing with real-world complexities in policy evaluations’
• Tony McEnery (Director of Research at ESRC)
‘Words and numbers – Linguistic analyses of big survey data’
• Peter Jackson (Professor of Human Geography, University of Sheffield)
