Dear all,
At the University of Leeds we are currently reviewing the role and membership of our University Research Ethics Committee (UREC). I'd be interested to hear how other universities' URECs - or equivalent - function, and in particular, where the committee sits in relation to other committees and why, and also who chairs it.
The Leeds UREC currently reports directly to the University's Council, and until recently was chaired by our Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation. Its remit includes considering matters of general principle and policy on research ethics and providing a framework of delegated authority within which the likely benefits of research can be considered in relation to the potential risks, and within which research will be conducted in accordance with the law, with University values, and with the highest standards of academic and professional integrity.
I'd be happy to collate and share the responses if others would also be interested in them.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Jennifer
