I have taken the liberty of copying this to the mineral collectors' website mindat.org and to a couple of Facebook pages for collectors of Irish and British minerals. Disappearing mine sites is a depressingly familiar story to mineralogists and I am sure the petition will find support from their ranks. Many a mineralogically important site has been lost to "remediation". Avoca once produced magnificent natural native copper specimens, and post-mining "native" copper is still to be seen forming in one of the levels. It is also interesting from the chemical, and likely also botanical and microbiological points of view.
