The Department of Neurology at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences (MPI-CBS), Leipzig, Germany is offering a PhD position in research project on spatio-temporal neuronal dynamics in sensorimotor system.
The research is conducted at the MPI-CBS in Leipzig, Germany, an internationally leading center for cognitive and imaging neuroscience equipped with a 7.0 T MRI scanner, several 3.0 T MRI scanners, a 306-channels MEG system, TMS, tDCS, and several EEG systems. All facilities and data analysis are supported by experienced IT and physics staff.

Research
Often research on cognitive, sensory or motor functions emphasizes either local neuronal activity or connectivity patterns. In order to take into account multifaceted nature of the neuronal processing in the human brain, our studies will focus on the interplay between local and global neuronal dynamics measured at different spatial and temporal scales. The complexity of neuronal interactions will be assessed with multimodal approaches including EEG, MEG and a combination of TMS/tDCS with EEG. The research will relate primarily to the sensorimotor system in healthy subjects and in patients with stroke.
Your profile
Eligible candidates should hold a master degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, including neuroscience, physiology, medicine, psychology, physics or computer science. Previous experience with neuroimaging methods (e.g. EEG or MEG) is essential. Although our focus is on neuroimaging studies, there is also a wider scope for researchers interested in computational modeling and development of advanced multivariate approaches. Knowledge of Matlab for data analysis is also required. Proficiency in spoken and written English is necessary.
Our offer
The position is for three years. A preferable starting date is in the beginning of January, 2017. The position will remain open until filled. Salary is dependent on experience and is based on the funding guidelines of the Max Planck Society. The Max Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer.
Your applicaction
The application should include the following documents (in a single PDF-file):
·	Cover letter (max 2 pages) describing personal qualifications and research interests
·	Curriculum vitae
·	Contact details of two references
Applications with the subject heading ‘PhD 8-16’ should be sent to [log in to unmask]
