Hannah,
Thanks for the positive feedback for the team - I hope yesterday matched expectations!
OpenAthens' ability to act as a bridge between ADFS and a full range of Shibboleth/SAML applications and platforms is a significant step forward for us. The straightforward bind between OpenAthens and ADFS enables the use of directory accounts and classifications when managing subscription licences.
This means we can provide our standard set of account management tools and reports within the OpenAthens dashboard using the ADFS attributes. You can see our admin area in action on our information professional video: http://www.openathens.org/resources/videos/
We've managed a number of connections over the summer and are happy to discuss the challenges - particularly if maintaining personalisation across a range of resources is important. Each resource can work differently so our role as an intermediary with the publishers makes things easier to scale.
It can be complex with so many resources involved, but our aim is to keep the experience for the end users as friction free as possible. And, once established, a connection with ADFS certainly makes things easier.

Hello Richard,
We're actually going live with this today!
Therefore I can't give you a full report of how successful it's been but so far what I will say is that Eduserv have been really brilliant at helping us deploy this. They've been contacting suppliers, liaising with our I.T. department and giving great advice. We're now just waiting to see the results which apparently should start showing later this afternoon.

Subject: [lis-e-resources] ADFS + Shibboleth
Hello
Is there any institution out there who has successfully deployed - or considered & rejected - a souped up configuration of Microsoft ADFS that provides Shibboleth / SAML2 functionality?
I'd be very interested if anyone could share their opinion of well such an arrangement would work, specifically from a Library perspective.
For example, how easy would it be to set up authentication with database publishers and maintain things like granular access rules for e-resource licences?
Thanks
Richard
