As happens from time to time on gis-jobs comments on pay and conditions offered by some employers and even a campaign against an individual employer have emerged on the gis-jobs list.
I have every sympathy with those complaining, however gis-jobs will become less useful if I allow such discussions or attacks on individual employers to dominate the list.
It is my job as list owner to ensure that the list fulfils its remit. In order to do that I cannot, and will not vet, or censor messages as they are posted, because that would create an unacceptable delay and work load. I will remove inappropriate postings from the archive and I reserve the right to remove anyone posting inappropriate messages from the list.
There is another announcement list that I 'own' gis-uk. I do not object to discussions on employers, pay or working conditions there. However any libellous material would be the responsibility of the person posting and I would still have an obligation to remove such material as soon as possible to protect both JISC and myself.
gis-jobs has a rolling set of about 3000 subscribers. It has for over 20 years provided an open and free to use resource that has placed many people in jobs and helped them develop their careers. The archive provides subscribers an opportunity to evaluate the job market and identify employers they may, or may not, want to work for. Because the simple way gis-jobs has operated has worked, and does work, I am not planning to change it. Thanks for subscribing and thanks to all those kind enough to tell me it is useful.
With best wishes
