[With apologies for any cross-posting]
Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to announce that the free online resource 'Proxeny Networks of the Ancient World' is now available on the website of the Centre for the Study of Ancient Documents:
http://proxenies.csad.ox.ac.uk
This resource is intended to provide a comprehensive and searchable overview of the attestations of proxeny in the ancient world and serve as a research resource accompanying my recent monograph (Proxeny and Polis, OUP 2015) and has been designed to allow for a wide range of different searches. It also has a map-based 'browse' function which I have found useful in exploring ancient interstate networks with undergraduates and the documentation is written with a lay audience in mind.
The database currently contains 3,548 attestations of proxeny, known from 2,506 different documents. It is released as a beta version, and corrections, comments, suggestions, as well as newly published proxenies are all warmly solicited. If you find it useful in your teaching or research, I would be very grateful if you would let me know by email (off-list, please).
This project was made possible by funding from the University of Oxford (Fell Fund) and University of Birmingham (Research, Knowledge & Transfer Fund).
With best wishes,
William Mack
