Hello all,
These crumbs end up strewn around the house when I remove my socks after 5-a-side football - so I can confirm the indoor exposure pathway..

That is a good point Hilary! I too have wondered about this, having spent the odd afternoon in a dry rubber crumb riding arena, and ending up covered in black dust (again outside work).

Hi,
This might sound even more left field, almost a Friday suggestion, but I wonder if there is any research in any of the equestrian colleges/vet centres/horse racing industry about this, or that might inform? Arena surfaces and race track surfaces very often include rubber shards/crumbs/pellets and they have been around a long, long time, so the industry should know something about its' breakdown over time (and even potentially equine health impacts from which you might extrapolate). Newmarket, Animal Health Trust, your own Royal Dick vet school in Edinburgh, Leahurst here in Liverpool, the commercial surface developers, the race courses who are very interested in throwback, ie particulates. And the materials scientists/ sports Universities?
(I'm a qualified riding instructor and dressage judge outside of work ........ )

Subject: 3G Pitches - rubber crumb exposure
Good Morning,
Bit left field (pardon the pun) but I'm wondering if anybody can point me in the direction of good UK research and EA etc guidance on health risks from exposures to rubber crumbs during use of 3G pitches? I'm also interested in the breakdown of the crumbs over time to form a dust and if there have been any studies on this.
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
Jackie
