Appreciate your thoughts Marc - it's about time someone called this out for what it is. Rather than bash the regulators who are trying to ensure that contaminated land is taken seriously in a difficult environment where there is a drive to streamline planning it would be better if the whole industry was focused on trying to convey the risks associated with contaminated land and raise its profile.
Best regards

Subject: Re: Questionnaire on the National Quality Mark Scheme for Land Contamination Management
I've already expressed my concern over this previously.
In principal I think the QM is a good idea, however the motives driving this change seems to be being overlooked.
If there was ever a potential for disbanding the EA or reducing to a skeleton service this is it. Personally I would prefer the regulators getting more money to do their job to the highest standard.
If I was a regulator I would be very concerned about my future position. Probably not the right discussion forum for politics but I suspect the government will like this idea.... of saving money.
If I was a regulator there is no way I would be diluting my regulatory role.
Its hard enough getting funding for contaminated land regulators currently - with this in place I suspect it will decrease further.
Perhaps I'm being pessimistic but I'd definitely look at the bigger picture?
