Hi Svenja,
I use engagespark (https://www.engagespark.com/) for my research which is an SMS health education intervention to adolescents in Malawi, it's great for sending messages to other countries from UK and the guys who run it are very helpful and always on hand to ask questions. I think it is designed for low-income countries would still work for what you are looking for. You can add in your contacts, schedule SMS for the future and send to specific groups of people as you need. It works in dollars (min $5) and for me to send an SMS to Malawi is $0.06.
Another option would be TextIt (https://textit.in/) it is also a good service, with helpful staff if you are ever stuck, it might be better for your UK/Germany texts, it just didn't work for me sending to Malawi.
Hope that helps, let me know if you need any more information or help setting it up.
Thanks,
Becky

Subject: Sending participants text reminders: Tips for a reliable online service
Dear fellow postgrads,
I was wondering if anyone has a good tip for an online service I could use to text reminders to participants.
I will start a diary study soon and offer to participants to sign-up for reminder texts to be send twice a day around the time they receive the diary invitations. Sending these texts via phone would be possible, but quite bothersome.
Here is what I need from the service:
- Import of contacts from excel/csv
- Being able to send the same text to a group of people at once
- Being able to schedule texts to be send at a predefined time (e.g., 5am in the morning)
- Sending texts to another country (Germany in my case; so any tips for German online services more than welcome)
- Being able to buy credit for smaller amounts (so no minimum top-up of £100)
The service should be reliable and not too expensive (max. 10p for a text). I googled around, but only found ones that are for businesses or looked a bit dodgy (with no recent reviews available). So I would really appreciate it if you could share some tips and personal experience with me.
Many thanks for your help!
Best wishes,
Svenja
