Hello
There is a talk happening at Strathclyde next week that I thought you all might be interested in attending, particularly if you have a Widening Access focus. Details below and feel free to share as widely as possible:
The History Department and the Widening Access Team at Strathclyde are hosting a public lecture on Wednesday 14th September at 4pm in McCance 303<http://www.strath.ac.uk/maps/mccancebuilding/>, University of Strathclyde, 16 Richmond Street. Refreshments will follow in the Conservatory.
The guest speaker is Dr Anne MacLachlan, retired senior researcher at the Centre for Studies in Higher Education, University of California. Dr MacLachlan will present a paper on Preservation of Educational Inequality in Doctoral Education, which reflects one of the strategic priorities of our University, Widening Participation. Dr Maclachlan’s work over the years has focussed on increasing access, persistence, and success in higher education for underrepresented groups including domestic minorities, women, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with an emphasis on access to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
We would be delighted if you could join us and Dr MacLachlan to discuss how other institutions have addressed the challenges of widening participation. Please email [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> to let us know if you will be attending and to inform us of any access requirements.
Yours faithfully,
Kirsty
