Dear All,
As you may have heard, NERC are currently reviewing all their services and facilities. This includes the Geophysics Equipment Facility (SEISUK, GEF-Edinburgh, OBIF). As part of this process NERC have asked for input from the community to help them prioritise what services and facilities are needed over the next 5-10 years (see below). It is possible that some services and facilities may not be renewed, so this call is an opportunity for us to let NERC know how valued GEF is to the geophysics community and describe how we would like it to look in the future.
It would be great if GEF features in a large number of responses.
Please do forward this to colleagues who may not get this email.
Kind regards
James

Invitation to participate in NERC Services and facilities consultation 1st to 30th September
NERC is introducing new ways of identifying and prioritising its services and facilities portfolio over the next five to ten years.
The approach for identifying services and facility priorities includes the bottom up generation of ideas or 'areas of strategic need'. An idea in this context should not be considered a proposal for funding; it is a suggestion for the continuation of, or a new, service or facility. It does not seek to understand local needs and provision, which could be funded through individual institutions or other routes. This consultation excludes NERC's provision of high performance computing, ships and aircraft, which are being assessed separately.
Consultation
NERC is inviting the research community to provide evidence of future needs from our services and facilities portfolio.
This consultation is open to Principal Investigators eligible to apply for grants. It will close at 16:00 on 30 September 2016.
If you would like to participate, please go to http://www.nerc.ac.uk/about/whatwedo/engage/engagement/services/ for further details. (It is also announced on the NERC News page).
The survey itself (linked through from the web pages) can be accessed at :https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/9Q2JLD5.
Please feel free to advise colleagues who may wish to provide us with feedback.
The consultation will close on 30th September.
