Employment Opportunity - McGill School of Environment and Department of Political Science

Assistant Professor, Politics and Environment

Department of Political Science and McGill School of Environment

The McGill School of Environment (MSE) and the Department of Political Science invite applications for a joint tenure-track position in Politics and Environment. Appointment is expected to be at the rank of Assistant Professor, but appointment at a higher rank may be possible under exceptional circumstances. Candidates should have already completed the PhD or be very near completion.

The Department and School welcome applications from qualified candidates working within any subfield in Environmental Politics. The search is open in terms of methodological specialization, although candidates are expected to be able to demonstrate expertise in either quantitative or qualitative methods, or both. While all applications will be given full consideration, we are particularly interested in scholars whose work incorporates some of the following elements: is transnational in scope or has the potential to move in this direction, addresses the consequences of environmental change for public policy at various institutional levels, examines the relationships between environmental change and other phenomena such as international migration or conflict. The School of Environment is highly interdisciplinary; the successful candidate will have demonstrated an excellent capacity to work in an interdisciplinary context and to develop interdisciplinary collaborations.

An applicant’s record of performance must provide evidence of outstanding research potential and the ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as the ability to provide supervision for graduate students.

Applications should include a letter of motivation, curriculum vitae, graduate transcript, three letters of reference, samples of written work (up to three reprints), a teaching statement (including material pertinent to teaching skills), and a research statement. The position start date is August 1, 2017.

For more information about the Department, the School, and University, visit our web sites at: mcgill.ca/politicalscience/ and mcgill.ca/mse . The Department and School maintain close relationships with other units at McGill with interests in the environment such as the School of Public Policy, which is expected to take in its first cohort of students in 2018, the McGill Institute for the Study of International Development (ISID), mcgill.ca/isid, and the Institute for Health and Social Policy mcgill.ca/ihsp/.

Inquiries about this position may be sent to the Chair of the Department of Political Science, Hudson Meadwell, [log in to unmask], or to Professor Sylvie de Blois, Director, McGill School of the Environment ([log in to unmask]).

Review of applications will begin on October 28, 2016 and will continue until the position is filled.

PLEASE APPLY ONLINE AT: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/7944

It welcomes applications from: women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, ethnic minorities, persons of minority sexual orientation or gender identity, visible minorities, and others who may contribute to diversification. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply; however, in accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
