Subject: Bass Culture research -launch event
Hello,
FYI / please share with networks:
I’d like to let you know about a new research project looking at the history and influence of Jamaican and Jamaican-influenced music in Britain. Led by the University of Westminster’s Black Music Research Unit, it’s the first of its kind to receive a major academic funding reward – from the Arts and Humanities Research Council. The extent to which Jamaican music in the UK has changed the way we interact with music, dance, fashion and language is huge, yet the story of that legacy remains largely undocumented. The scene surrounding Jamaican music is also recognised as a key catalyst in integration and multiculturalism in London and beyond; its impact is political, economic and social, as well as cultural.
The project launch is 5-7pm Thursday 29th September
Invite attached.
The event is free but requires booking here:

If you can’t make it but are interested, stay in touch – the work will only be possible with community involvement.
All best wishes,
Kate
