Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Western Australia.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic individual with a PhD in Chinese Studies or in any Social Sciences discipline related to the study of contemporary China.

Applications from candidates with expertise in sociology, anthropology and political sciences or development studies will be particularly welcome, but applications outside these disciplines will be considered if the candidate can demonstrate a link with the School's strategic research initiatives. The successful candidate will have a dynamic research profile, with a strong publication and successful grant track record in Chinese Studies relative to level of appointment.

Strong teaching record in tertiary education is essential, and the successful candidate will be expected to be prepared to undertake unit coordination duties and to collaborate in team teaching of existing undergraduate and postgraduate Chinese and Asian Studies units, as well other units within the School relevant to their expertise.  It is expected that the successful candidate will also teach and coordinate some Chinese language units where required, and we are particularly keen to receive applications from candidates with experience in coordinating Chinese studies programs which involve language teaching. Experience in supervising of postgraduate students is desirable. Applicants are requested to submit a teaching portfolio as part of their application, outlining their previous experience and teaching philosophy.

Please note that a native or near native fluency in Chinese, and fluency in both spoken and written English is required for this post. Experience in teaching at university level is essential.
