The National Gallery is seeking to appoint an Archive Assistant to assist in the operations of the Research Centre with a particular focus on assisting visitors, invigilating external researchers and responding to enquiries. In addition the post-holder may be called upon to provide administrative and semi-professional support to the Archivist.
You will be educated to Degree level, or equivalent, and have experience of working with archives. Experience of archive databases, cataloguing and cataloguing standards is desirable. You will have a broad knowledge of the history of Western European painting, and it would be advantageous to have a wider understanding of British 19th and 20th century history. A commitment to archive work as a career is desirable.
In this role you will be adaptable and able to work without constant supervision. The ability to prioritise workloads and work to agreed deadlines is important, in addition to excellent attention to detail, a methodical approach, accuracy and highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
