We are seeking archive services willing to pilot proposed changes to the Archive Service Accreditation Standard with regard to increased expectations for the management of born digital records.
Increasing expectations around born digital records for all archive services holding hybrid collections and widening eligibility to include digital only repositories from 2018 is the first development stage of Archive Service Accreditation since its launch in 2013.
We have been working with members of the Digital Preservation Coalition to develop Archive Service Accreditation in line with the developing needs of digital preservation for archive services, ensuring the changes are flexible, scalable, incremental and achievable.
The developments to date are outline in the presentation available here http://www.slideshare.net/mhaunton/archive-service-accreditation-digital-developments-for-ara-conference-2016
We are interested in hearing from archive services that are willing to test the proposed changes and that are willing to provide feedback on the process and supporting guidance. The pilot will run from the beginning of October 2017 until the end of February 2017 and during this period archive services are invited to test the changes in one of three ways:
* Option 1 - Self assess against the NDSA Levels of Preservation http://www.digitalpreservation.gov/documents/NDSA_Levels_Archiving_2013.pdf
* Option 2 - Self assess against NDSA Levels of Preservation as above and complete a selected range of question on the revised application form for Archive Service Accreditation
* Option 3 - Complete the application form in full with particular reference to your practice around born digital records, including the revised questions and self assessment against NDSA Levels of Preservation.
Participating archive services would need to commit to test the changes and submit their response by the end of February 2017.
The attached document provides some more information about these options.
If you are interesting in testing the proposed changes to Archive Service Accreditation with regard to the management of born digital records, we would be grateful if you would email us at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> and state which option you would be interested in testing by 7th October 2016.
