Date: 6 - 7 October 2016
Venue: Morton Conference Centre, Yarm Road, Darlington, DL1 4PJ
Cost: ACAMH Member: £140| Non-Member: £160
Overview
This two-day training course, which looks at the Open Dialogue approach – a philosophical/theoretical approach to people experiencing a mental health crisis and their families/networks, and a system of care. Drawing on a number of theoretical models – including systemic family therapy, dialogical theory and social constructionism – the Open
Dialogue approach sees teams working with families and social networks, as much as possible in their own homes to help those involved in a crisis situation to be together and to engage in dialogue.
Delegates will be able to familiarise themselves with this innovative and evidence based-approach in systemic practice of treating complex mental health issues.
Content covered during the day includes:
· The seven principles of the Open Dialogue approach
· The roots of the approach
· The 12 key elements of Dialogical Practice
· Conducting network meetings
· An overview of psychosis and medication.
Workshop participants will gain:
· A historical perspective and outcome studies of OD framework for treatment of psychosis
· A basic understanding about key elements of dialogical methods
· An opportunity to participate in a mock network meeting
· An awareness of UK wide OD developments.
The workshop will be open to delegates who are systemically- and recovery-orientated mental health practitioners, ideally with three or more years of experience, who assess and treat individuals with psychosis.
Speaker:
Nick Putman is a psychotherapist and a certified Open Dialogue practitioner, having completed two years of training in the Open Dialogue approach with Mary Olson, Jaakko Seikkula, Markku Sutela and others.
