Special Issue on Connected and Automated Vehicles: Effects on Traffic, Mobility and Urban Design
________________________________
Description:
The rapid development of new vehicle technologies is expected to soon lead to a higher number of connected vehicles on the roads (those constantly sending information such as their location and speed), as well as the emergence of automated vehicles. The new technologies have the potential to change considerably our personal mobility and living styles in ways which are still difficult to grasp. Because these changes are still relatively unknown, transport and city planners might not be sufficiently prepared for what may come in the next years. It is thus important for researcher to share the research findings on how these new vehicles will impact both in operational and planning at urban, regional, and national scales. This special issue is focusing on the effects of connected and automated and connected vehicles on traffic, mobility, and urban design. Topics of specific interest include, but are not limited to the impact of connected and automated vehicles:
· Traffic control
· Traffic congestion
· Travel costs
· Traffic safety
· Energy consumption
· Air pollution
· Road design
· Vehicle ownership
· Shared mobility
· Parking demand
· Street design
· City and neighborhood planning
