CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Multiple SESYNC Postdoctoral Fellowships
The National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center (SESYNC), located in Annapolis, Maryland, invites applications from early career scholars (≤ 4 years post PhD) for 2-year postdoctoral fellowships that begin August 2017. Fellows will co-develop research projects with Collaborating Mentors using synthesis methods to address a problem arising from, or associated with, the relationship between humans and the environment. Fellows will also participate in the Socio-Environmental Immersion Program, which includes a learning component that will steep participants in theory foundational to understanding socio-environmental systems. Successful candidates will use synthesis methods to address a problem arising from, or associated with, the relationship between humans and the environment. Priority will be given to projects that have the potential to advance understanding of socio-environmental systems, but the synthesis may be primarily social or environmental in nature, or some mix. We will also consider proposals with a humanities focus. Prospective fellows who propose the use of advanced theoretical, computational, and/or mathematical approaches to explore, characterize, and understand the structure and dynamics of socio-environmental systems are particularly encouraged to apply. In collaboration with the Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) network, SESYNC also invites applications that propose to use long term data sets, ongoing experiments, or modeling results from LTER sites.
