Ernest Remnant (1872-1941), born Schenk; his father was professor of German and Physical Science, Robert Carl Schenk; his mother was Agnes Pyle. "Unfortunately Robert died only a few years after their marriage leaving his widow with a young son, Ernest. Agnes was an accomplished artist and one of her paintings sold at Christies in the 1990’s. Ernest changed his name to Remnant pre. WW1, bringing the name full circle. Ernest, now Remnant, was a much travelled man with many accomplishments to his name; including being the owner and editor of the “English Review”; he led the British Trade Mission into Russia in 1929 and had business interests in Poland, Belgrade and Greece to name but a few."

A> Does anyone know anything about one Ernest Remnant, please? He was the
A> editor of the English Review 1923-31 and he came to "dine and sleep" at
A> Bateman's in February 1925. The Wikipedia entry for the 'English
A> Review' mentions him, but there is no separate entry for him, or not
A> that I can find. He doesn't appear in the biographies of RK, nor in the
A> 'Letters'. He does appear in /Who's Who, /bur his entry is pretty
A> sparse: the only comment I can make is that, judging by the Wiki entry
A> for the 'English Review', which speaks of it becoming more right-wing
A> political under Remnant's editorship,.his politics chimed with Kipling's.
