Dear Colleagues
Keynotes
The ARA UK and Ireland annual conference is due to begin in London in
just over four weeks. We have now finalised our programme with
significant keynotes being given by Colin Prescod (Chair of the
Institute of Race Relations in the UK), Tina Staples (Global Head of
Archives, HSBC Holdings PLC) and Anthea Case (Principal Adviser to the
Arcadia Fund).
Your Conference
The ARA Conference is a lively opportunity for professionals in the
record keeping sector to meet and engage in the largest professional
gathering in the UK and Ireland. The conference theme this year of
'Global Futures' encouraged the biggest response we have ever had to a
call for papers. We have been able to pull together the best proposals
to create a high quality programme. Abstracts and Biographies of
speakers (92 national and international speakers!):

Our Archives and Records and Conservation streams have again been
joined this year by a Digital Preservation and Digital Archives and
Records stream as our continuing and now permanent response to the
changing environment in which we live and work. We will have speakers
from all of the UK and Ireland, and from Sweden, Thailand, Germany,
and the USA. Three days. 92 speakers. 69 papers, workshops and panel
discussions. For those of you who have not been to an ARA conference
take a look at this short video to get a taste:

Colleagues are encouraged to consider attending for a day session if
unable to make it for the whole conference. Keep your CPD current!
Information Village
The Information Village is renamed to include representation from
grant giving and other sector bodies. It's your chance to meet
suppliers and chat them up for all the new product lines and to learn
how to apply for grants. This year we will again have poster displays
from doctoral students, Transforming Archives trainees and others,
outlining their research and experience in record keeping fields.
Social Events (receptions, dinners and dancing)
The City of London is hosting the first night drinks reception at the
Guildhall Art Gallery. This is a fabulous building:
