Subject: Re: [PSCI-COM] Cost of Conferences
Does drawing a pension count as "unwaged"? Aren't we in an era when the pension classes are better off than most? As a pensioner, if I go to a conference, it is either a holiday, or something I expect to turn into income, making it, as someone suggests, tax deductible.
While it is nice to have discounts, I have a lot of sympathy for organisations that operate on a shoe string and need to cover their costs. When there are likely to be loads of fat-cat corporate delegates, I might expect a "senior" discount. But I can't think of many Public Engagement in Science and Technology events that fall into that category.
Perhaps third-party organisations run schemes that will support travel to an event. For example, one might make a case for an Ingenious grant (see previous messages) if it is part of a bigger project.
